It's taking me a bit longer then I thought to add the transcript, but here's what I've done so far.....
Janice Long: Its One eskimO who are playing live for us tonight, Kristian Leontiou, Adam Faulkner, Jimmy Sims and Mark thingyit and its lovely to see you again Mr Leontiou. How are you?
Kristian Leontiou: Very good thank you.
Janice Long: Good, because the last time, how long ago was is it, about 18 months ago?
Kristian Leontiou: Yes, it doesn't seem like long ago but then thinking about it today it was quite long ago.
Janice Long: Yeh it was ages, because how long have I've been playing 'Kandi'?
Kristian Leontiou: Our one single!
Janice Long: And replying to everybody going 'it's not out yet, but it will be one day I assure you' and that day is imminent.
Kristian Leontiou: It's just taken us so to pull everything together really and yeh we started doing the animation obviously last time and its just taken time to pull everything together really, yeh.
Janice Long: Well put it in your own words because I did tell people about what had happened with the animation buts its all quite exciting isn't it?
Krisitian Leontiou: Well yeah I think last time we spoke to you we had just won the british animation award, our first animation, i was working with rollo armstrong and through him I met a company called ATC who I have been working with, a management company, they work with Radiohead and Faithless and yeah it kind of just started developing really they started talking to companies about us getting funding to do an animation for our whole album, we got a few people interested and then we took 6 months to write a storyboard and we got funding for it, i think it about was 7 or 8 months ago now, since then we've had a company Passion Pictures who do the Gorillaz stuff, they do loads of cool animation and adverts as well, they've been working on it now for about 7 months or so and it literally tomorrow it finishes.
Janice Long: So, you were always keen for it to be a whole package weren't you?
Kristian Leontiou: Yeah, well I didn't expeect it to come the way it did, i mean it was a bit of a pipedream really, to have the full animation before we're releasing the album, i never thought that was gonna happen and at the time as well i was literally scrimping money to pay animators to get the first one done and then you know this happens, so it was nice to take time out but it was nice to get back in and carry on writing some songs.
Janice Long: Well I'm sure it is and you did actually take proper time out, you went off didn't you for a while?
Kristian Leontiou: It's been a mixture of things, any time i've got down time I like to just get away, and i think thats the best way of writing and even come up with ideas for the animation, it was just any kind of opportunity really and also in the studio working on another project while the animation was getting done, its just been a mixture really.
Janice Long: I'll tell you what I've been really excited about though, the fact that I've tuned in and heard it across the radio because it's on the playlist - thats fantastic, brillant!
Kristian Leontiou: Well this is amazing for us, i mean again, for us to be playlisted, I think before I came and saw you last time, a couple of deals were on the table from labels and I went away just after that and I came back and just felt it was the wrong thing to do to go with record labels which put us in a difficult position financially to be able to move anything forward but its just worked out and to release the single now, it feels like we're getting attention and we're doing tv and we're doing stuff like without a label you know its difficult to get there.
